Raise a toast
To the Mad Marquess
Henry de la Poer Beresford, The 3rd Marquess of Waterford (1811–1859). Also known as The Mad Marquess, He was a legendary bon vivant from County Waterford, Ireland.
In 1837, after a day of horse racing in Leicestershire, he and his friends stumbled upon some red paint and took to the streets of Melton Mowbray, daubing buildings, passers-by, and even the toll keeper. The phrase was born, and so was his wild legacy.
Today, the spirit lives on in our blended Irish Whiskey with a rebellious streak.
